How To Add +digg +del.icio.us & +marktd Links In Blog Posts

by Guy Brighton

By submitting links to the popular community-news sites such as Digg, deli.cio.us and now Marktd; bloggers drive traffic to the content on their websites. Some bloggers help their readers submit content to these sites by adding links at the bottom of posts that provide a level of auto-submission. Click the +digg, +del.cio.us or +marktd links below the post to see how they work.

If you’re a blogger using MoveableType or Typepad and want to add these links, here’s what you need to do:

1. Go to the design template section and select the ‘Individual Archives’ file to edit. (Typepad users - your templates need to have been converted to advanced in order to do this)

2. Beneath the code for the Entry, you’ll find code that produces the category tags and post information. This is where you’ll add the code

3. Add the following code:

<a href=”http://del.icio.us/post?url=<$MTEntryPermalink$>”>+del.icio.us</a>

<a href=”http://www.digg.com/submit?phase=2&url=<$MTEntryPermalink$>”>+digg</a>

<a href=”http://www.marktd.com/submit?url=<$MTEntryPermalink$>”>+marktd</a>

4. Save Template and republish all your Individual Archives.

5. If you’re confident about what you’ve produced - do the same for your Main Index Template, your Category Archive template and your DateBased Archive template.
