Outdoor Contextual Ads

by Henry Lambert

The old media version of Google has managed to get ahead of its Mountain View rival for the first time in years. The UK publishers of the Yellow pages, Yell.com, have come up with a unique and forward thinking way of advertising their services. They have 25 London busses fitted with LED panels that will show contextual messages relevent to the bus’s geographical position.

‘Yell.com is using the GPS panel system as part of a five-month campaign to raise awareness of its local search facility. Besides intelligent buses, the campaign (developed by AKQA) also includes knowledgeable bus shelters: interactive screens on bus shelters will highlight local shops, restaurants and bars and help users find their way.’
