Marketing Obama

This isn’t a political blog and doesn’t want to be. However, the way that Barack Obama has risen so far and so fast is a fascinating subject as he owes some of his success to some very smart marketing. Dino at Chroma has written an interesting post on the subject.
He argues that, basically, Obama’s become omnipresent online and, in particular, within social media like Twitter and Flickr. This means that he’s become the ‘open source candidate’ – he means lots of different things to lots of different people.
The other smart thing that Obama has done it to talk about and represent people’s hopes rather than their current situation. As a result he’s become “a canvas for the projection of everything positive that Americans want to believe in - a brand molecule.” He’s elevated politics beyond the single issue i.e. the economy and onto the bigger idea of change – something only he can own.
Dino reckon’s this site satirises the campaign nicely.
